Loka Murphy: Athletic Trainer-2nd Year

This is Loka’s second year as Ballard Beaver’s athletic trainer.  In Loka’s first year the Ballard Foundation raised Loka’s weekly hours at Ballard High School from 20 to 32, making him available to not only attend home games but often times travel with the varsity sports to away games as well.  This year with the support of Ballard’s Principle Phil Brockman, the Ballard Foundation, Virginia Mason’s Dr. Rosemary Agostini and Children’s Hospital there are two pilot sports medicine programs being started at two Seattle high schools (Ballard and Chief Sealth).  If all goes well Loka will be one the instructor’s for this program teaching classes at Ballard during the day and providing athletic training services in the afternoon/evenings.  This will hopefully become the model within the Seattle Public Schools in which all ten high schools will have their own athletic trainer. As of right now eight of the ten schools have to share an athletic trainer between two schools.

Loka moved to Seattle from Missoula, MT, where he was born and raised.  It was there that he earned his bachelor of science in the Health and Human Performance Department (w/an emphasis in athletic training) at the University of Montana (Go Griz!).  It was also in Missoula that he met his wonderful wife Brandy.  They have been married for eight years and have two boys Satchel (7) and Oskar (3).

Loka greatly appreciates the warmth, support and trust that Ballard High School has shown toward Loka and his family and looks forward to another exciting year of Ballard Basketball!  Go Beavers!!!
